Another week, another Geek Dads Weekly! I can’t tell you how proud of myself I am today. We recorded the show from 2-3pm, and I had it edited, uploaded and posted by four. That almost never happens – in fact, the past two episodes didn’t get posted until three days after recording them. From the Geek Dads Weekly website:

This week we’re talking about concert tours and the expenses associated with attending a big show, and the end of the era of fantastic album artwork. Drew is attending the EVO conference, where he will be in the gender minority. We turn to the issue of image licensing and licensing images of our kids for various things. We wrap with a brief discussion of the just-released iOS4 and a certain Dad’s about-face on the topic of getting an iPad.

The title of the episode is a nod to the celebrated thespian, Admiral Ackbar. His classic line, “It’s a trap!” from Return of the Jedi is cinema gold. When Drew said during the show that he would be speaking at the EVO – that’s The Evolution of Women in Social Media – conference, my first thought was that it was a trap. Perhaps the mommy bloggers are trying to pick off us daddy bloggers a few at a time. If we don’t see Drew after next week, we’ll know the truth.

It’s been a good run so far for Geek Dads Weekly, and we’re just getting started. Let’s see, the last time I wrote anything about it here was… yeah… ten episodes ago. Wow. Once again, I’m a pathetic blogger.

Maybe I should make that the site’s tagline.

The biggest news of the past few months is that we’ve added a third host to the show: Drew Bennett of BenSpark.com. Drew was previously a guest on the show, and had been a listener for a while, too. When Joe and I discussed bringing in a third, my first thought was Drew, and Joe agreed. We were thrilled when Drew accepted the invitation when we made it shortly after.

We’ve also got some new sponsors, Giganews, Fan Duel, Legacy Learning and others, that we’re happy to be promoting.

Over at the Geek Dads Weekly site, I’ve just posted a one-hour recap of Affiliate Summit West 2010, the affiliate marketing conference that I’ve just returned home from. The event was incredible – I really have no complaints about it at all, which is itself incredible. Previous Summits have always had a negative aspect or two, whether it was a problem with a fellow attendee, a problem with a session or the schedule, or overall lack of benefit to my efforts at the time (not a reflection of the quality of the show, but a statement about my own lack of discipline). This time around was pitch perfect. I made a lot of great contacts, shored up some sponsorships for Geek Dads Weekly, had a great time with every single person I met there – I’m so high on this thing I’m going to be talking about it for months (probably just in time for Summit East in New York in August).

As we transition from 2009 to 2010, another transition is taking place with the weekly podcast that I co-host with Joe Magennis. We began the show as Geek Dads @ Home in December 2008, and as of December 2009, that show is over. Last week we recorded our first show as the revamped and freshly painted Geek Dads Weekly!

We decided that it was time to drop the never-enforced “@ Home” requirement and open the show to any geek dads out there who would like to come on as a guest with us. We’re excited about 2010 and we hope you’ll join us!

Geek Dads @ Home episode #30 is available at GeekDadsAtHome.com and in the iTunes store. That’s right, 30! The big three-oh. Now, you’d think that for a show that debuted last December, we’d be a lot further along than 30, but that’s the life of a geek dad: we miss recording some weeks. Our 30th was a good one, though. We talked a lot about services and products that we recommend, the kids walking and crawling, and the importance of backing up your family photos (I’ll have a lengthy article about that shortly). As they say, “all that and more!”

Oddly, I didn’t realize that my microphone wasn’t picking me up and I was being recorded on my MacBook Pro’s internal microphone, so it’s a little echo-y on my end. Not my finest technical achievement. Still, we had a good time, and I hope you enjoy it.

Who would have thought that we’d actually do two shows in two days? We’ve historically had a hard time doing two shows in two weeks! Here we are though, with back-to-back shows. We recorded Episode #25 yesterday with special guest David Jacobs, and we had a great time. Then, this morning, Twitter and a few other social networking sites get hit with a DDoS attack. Joe pinged me on IM and said that he had original Geek Dad Sam Harrelson on the phone and they wanted to do a Geek Dads episode dedicated to the Twitter outage.

The timing couldn’t have been worse because my wife had just left for an appointment, leaving me with the two kids – one of whom was in the middle of lunch, the other needing to be brought to the table for lunch. Still, doing a current events episode was too good to pass up, so I got the kids squared away as quickly as possible (Ian just got put in his high chair with some rice cereal to play with, some of which went into his mouth, I think). We did a great 45 minutes and called it Episode #26 – The Day Twitter Died. Give it a listen and let us know if you agree or disagree with our assessment of the social media scene!

In an amazing display of skill, luck and determination, I managed to not only record the Geek Dads @ Home podcast yesterday, but also run it through post production and post it! On the same day! It’s a MIRACLE! I should have titled it “OMG Daniel Got the Show Posted on Same Day as Recording”, but decided on “The Recording Method, Allen Stucker and Comics”, which is a lot more descriptive – even if it is a lot less self-congratulatory.
